The Beloved Starbucks Snack That's Being Discontinued

For some regular patrons of Starbucks, grabbing a little snack along with a handcrafted Starbucks drink is all part of their morning routine. The coffee company offers folks breakfast sandwiches and baked goods to help get the day started, but some looked forward to the sweet taste of the chocolate brownie to complement their frappes and lattes. Unfortunately, according to a poster in the know on the subreddit r/Starbucks, the brownie may soon no longer be available.

The original post simply read, "they're discontinuing the brownie," followed by three crying emojis. After a few people lamented about former pastries going the way of other popular discontinued snack foods, folks began asking exactly how the original poster came upon this unwelcome information. The poster alleged that they're an employee at the company, and they indicated that the change was stated in the company's internal monthly update. They wrote, "the april monthly update just came out, stores will be getting their last shipments in mid-late april and once those sell out its done."

A Starbucks rep confirmed to Static Media that it's all true. More specifically, the Double Chocolate Brownie will disappear from U.S. menus in May. If you want something similar, other chocolate treats will remain at Starbucks for the foreseeable future, including the Chocolate Cake Pop and Chocolate Chip Cookie.

Customers are upset about the brownie disappearing

If posts on Reddit are analogous to the feelings of Starbucks customers at large, discontinuing the brownie is going to ruffle some feathers. In the same subreddit where it was made known the brownie was being phased out, one person responded, "Okay I've had it now. This is unfair. That damn brownie is my fave." Another person who claims to work at Starbucks wrote, "Why don't they get rid of the other things that DON'T sell, like the VB scone or ginger cookie. We can't even keep the brownie on the shelf because people love it."

While comments flooded in about how this move would negatively affect their lives, one commenter seemed to think it was only a matter of time. "The price grew so it was never worth it at about $4.50 where I live. It's sad but I get it." Perhaps it shouldn't be all that shocking, given previous news about the menu. Earlier this year, Starbucks announced that it would be slimming down its menu, focusing on providing customers with more value for their dollar. It could be that the brownie was something of a loss leader that Starbucks no longer wants to keep around in light of its new business strategy.
