Frito-Lay Just Issued A Recall On Its Popular Tostitos Tortilla Chips. Here's What States Are Impacted

Late in 2024, Frito-Lay had to issue a recall of Lay's Classic Potato Chips because of the possibility that an undeclared allergen was present in the product. It seems that this may be an ongoing problem, as the company has just put forth another recall related to undeclared milk that may be residing in its popular Tostitos Cantina Traditional Yellow Corn Tortilla Chips. The chips have been available for purchase for nearly three weeks since March 7, and Frito-Lay has encouraged anyone with the product to discard it out of an abundance of caution.

The Tostitos tortilla chips were distributed to grocery and convenience stores in 13 states. Residents in Alabama, Florida, Georgia, Illinois, Indiana, Kentucky, Mississippi, North Carolina, Ohio, South Carolina, Tennessee, Virginia, and West Virginia should double-check their pantries to ensure that the chips aren't present. Under 1,300 13-ounce bags of the chips are being recalled, and no other Frito-Lay products are reported to be affected.

Only specifically marked Tostitos chips are recalled

The Tostitos tortilla chips that folks should be on the lookout for in certain states all bear a "guaranteed fresh" date of May 20, 2025. However, the only products affected also have specific manufacturing codes, with the last two numbers ending somewhere between 30 and 55. The codes in question are 471106504 18 13:XX, 471106505 85 13:XX, 471106506 85 13:XX, and 471106507 85 13:XX. People with Tostitos tortilla chips that have one of these codes and the aforementioned best-by date can contact Frito-Lay at 1-800-352-4477 between 9 am and 4:30 pm CST Monday through Friday, or they can use the Frito-Lay Contact Us Page.

From listeria to physical contaminants found in food, there has been an increase in food recalls lately that some may find concerning. However, this may very well mean that oversight organizations and the companies themselves are simply getting better at detecting problems before they get out of hand. The good news is that this most recent product recalled from Frito-Lay won't harm anyone who isn't allergic to milk. However, it would still be wise to throw them out if to prevent someone with a milk allergy from unknowingly consuming the potentially harmful product.
