Does Costco Make Wedding Cakes?

You can get pure maple syrup and organic peanut butter at Costco — they are among the best grocery products to buy there — but how about a wedding cake? If you are at the stage of your life where you are planning a wedding (congratulations, by the way!), you are undoubtedly trying to save money. Zola reports that the average American wedding cost $33,000 in 2024, with the typical wedding cake bearing a price tag between $600 and $900. For many couples, that's a ridiculous amount of cash. You can save money on almost anything at Costco, including dinner staples like rotisserie chicken and cheap, all-beef hot dogs. Why not get your wedding cake there?

Well, according to Costco itself, the warehouse giant doesn't strictly sell wedding cakes, at least not the elaborately decorated, tiered variety you might expect. However, you can customize the store bakery's sheet cakes in a variety of wedding-appropriate ways. Costco's vanilla sheet cake is notoriously cheap, delicious, and, perhaps most importantly for many who plan weddings, white. For the low price of about $25, you can order a half sheet that serves 48 guests, which is an unheard-of bargain when it comes to wedding cake. Meanwhile, a full sheet cake costs only $40. 

Costco doesn't offer much in the way of decorations, with Reddit commenters reporting that basic roses and script are about all you can ask for, but don't let that stop you. Thrifty brides and grooms still have a lot of options, especially if they're willing to put in a bit of extra work.

Dollar for dollar, you can't beat the idea of serving Costco sheet cakes at your wedding. Making your own is a bit of a fraught concept, as there are dozens of mistakes that can happen when baking a cake at home. Why not let Costco do the hard work for you? 

If you're keen on appearances, one option is to shell out some money for a tiny decorated cake to display at your reception, then keep as many sheet cakes as necessary in the back to cut and serve to guests. Costco even sells cakes that are pre-scored with individual flowers on each square, making cutting and serving a large volume of cake easy.

Alternatively, you could decorate your wedding cake(s) yourself. With some strategically-placed fresh-cut flowers, even a plain cake looks elegant and picture-ready. If you know someone who is handy with a piping bag, you could have them add more elaborate frosting decorations to the cake. Or, you could simply embrace the minimalist decorations that Costco already offers. After all, cake is just one part of your special day. It is definitely going to taste good coming from Costco, so why not save some money where you can?
