Transform One Canned Good Into An Easy Sorbet
Sometimes, a sorbet is just what you need. Whether your digestive tract can't tolerate more lactose or you simply aren't craving a dessert as rich and heavy as ice cream, there are times when you have a need for a sweet and refreshing snack that can only be fulfilled by sorbet. We have great news for you: an appetite-pleasing sorbet is only one ingredient away. With only a single can of fruit, you can create a sweet and refreshing frozen dessert, so long as you're sure not to drain any of the fruit syrup. Soon, you'll see that making single-ingredient sorbet is an easy way to give canned fruit new life.
Just choose that fruit mindfully. Some varieties of canned fruit, like mandarin oranges or fruit cocktail, will produce sorbet reminiscent of childhood school lunches with fruit cups. Canned peaches, pears, and apricots will also yield a sugary sorbet that will appease your sweet tooth. For a refreshing balance of sweetness and tartness, canned pineapple might be one of your best bets. All you need to create sorbet magic at home is a can of fruit, a freezer, and a food processor.
Sorbet is a few steps away
After freezing the can for at least 12 hours, empty its contents into a food processor. If the frozen fruit and syrup don't slide out easily, dip the exterior of the can into a container of hot water, which will help melt the bits holding on to the sides of the can. With a little patience, it should slide right out.
Next, break the chunks of canned fruit into smaller pieces so that the food processor can break it down more easily (one-inch pieces should do the trick). All that's left now is to blend until it is smooth and enjoy! If the sorbet is too soft, throw it back into the freezer until it firms up. If you are worried about the sorbet over-freezing, you might even experiment with the plastic bag trick for more scoopable ice cream to find that perfect sorbet softness.
