The Beloved Sandwich That's Returning To Costco's Food Court
Stop the presses! After languishing on the list of discontinued Costco food court products since the COVID-19 pandemic, the wildly popular Hot Turkey & Provolone Sandwich may well be returning to a warehouse near you. While the retailer has yet to make an official announcement on the matter, online chatter has some feeling pretty confident that the sandwiches will be shipped to stores this week. In fact, as per a snap posted by a Redditor shopping in Eugene, Oregon, at least one location is already dishing the sammies up!
Unlike Costco's Chicken & Bacon Sandwich, which was new last summer in food courts (and which was widely panned), the Hot Turkey & Provolone's beloved status was never in question. It featured oven-roasted turkey and luscious provolone cheese dressed with red onion and tomato, served piping hot on a torta roll slathered in basil-garlic mayo. At 820 calories, it was definitely a lot of bang for your buck. This brings us to the only downside to this great news: you won't be able to enjoy the sandwich for the same low price that you once paid. It seems that, during its hiatus from the food court menu, the Hot Turkey & Provolone has grown quite a bit more expensive, though you may notice slight changes if it really does go nationwide again.
You can expect to drop a few dollars more for the sandwich these days
Costco's most famous loss leader is arguably its $1.50 hot dogs. The reason why the iconic Costco hot dogs stay so cheap is because the warehouse's corporate management knows that the store gets good press by maintaining the low price tag in a time of rapid inflation and rising grocery costs. The entire food court menu is reasonably priced, honestly. Still, it may sting to notice that the Hot Turkey & Provolone has apparently jumped quite a bit in cost. A Reddit post from 2024 shows the sandwich listed on the Costco menu for the cool price of $3.99. Anecdotal reports from the comment section confirm that this was the going price nationwide. Unfortunately, the picture captured in Eugene shows the reincarnated Hot Turkey & Provolone selling for $6.99 — a change that will definitely turn your head.
Now, don't get us wrong; seven dollars is still a fair price for a calorie-dense, filling meal. You can bet that we'll be crowning our next Costco grocery one with a celebratory Hot Turkey & Provolone, assuming it's on offer. After all, an average Big Mac meal at McDonald's is typically over nine bucks nowadays. Still, we can't help but mourn the halcyon days when we could snag a stuffed sandwich for less than a five spot.
