The Fast Food Chain That Abruptly Closed All Of Its Locations In Colorado
Coloradans love their Mexican food, as proven by a marketing study that reported Taco Bell as the most popular food chain among the state's residents. Perhaps it's this loyalty to Taco Bell that caused the chain's Mexican fast food competitor, Del Taco, to abruptly close all of its locations in the Centennial State. As of February 27, 19 of Del Taco's Colorado locations are closed until further notice (one location in Grand Junction is still open). What's more, online ordering has been halted, drive-thrus are closed, and the phones are all seemingly disconnected.
The reason for the abrupt closure has not been confirmed, nor the chances of any of the locations reopening, though Del Taco told Denver's 9NEWS that the closures were temporary. "We will re-open these locations as soon as possible and will share updates as they become available," the chain said, without offering much more information.
Differing notices were posted on the doors of the shuttered Del Taco locations, some hinting that they might serve customers again soon, while others felt more final, thanking customers for their business and wishing them well. What we can say is that those craving a quick soft taco or cheap bean and cheese burrito will have to turn (or drive) elsewhere, at least for the time being.

Why the abrupt closures? So far, Del Taco hasn't said much, though some online commentators have speculated that lackluster earnings or other financial woes might be to blame. But until more concrete info comes out, many are simply left to speculate. Though this news will no doubt upset die-hard Del Taco fans, the bright side is that there is a backup for anyone who needs a fast food taco fix.
Taco Bell offers many similar items to Del Taco — like burritos, tacos, and quesadillas — as well as some menu items that are unique to the chain. And if it's any consolation, Taco Bell is now serving birthday cake churros for a limited time in honor of its birthday, so you can at least get a sweet treat to soothe any hard feelings. Perhaps even better, Colorado is one of the best U.S. destinations for Mexican food, so there are also plenty of higher-end establishments at which to get your fix.
