A Once-Discontinued McDonald's Item Is Finally Returning To Menus

After the E. coli scare of 2024, McDonald's has been hard at work trying to win back customers' affection by adding value to the menu and occasionally bringing back fan favorites like the McRib. Burgers may be the Golden Arches' forte, but in a recent earnings call, it was revealed that McD's corporate entities are seeing chicken as the wave of the future. In its ongoing effort to combat recent customer dropoff, McDonald's will be bringing back its version of chicken tenders, which were discontinued in the U.S. back in 2013.

The crispy chicken strips were once called Chicken Selects. Although the discontinued menu item wasn't called by that name specifically on the earnings call, it was still pretty clear that there would be a similar chicken strip offering on U.S. menus before the end of 2025. The recipe might not be exactly the same, based on the reluctance to call the tenders by their signature title, but crispy tenders of some sort will be returning to McDonald's locations sometime soon. What's more, the Chicken Selects were an integral part of the most-requested McDonald's menu item — also set to make a rebound in 2025.

Rumors swirled in 2024 regarding a cryptic message posted on social media from McDonald's indicating its Snack Wraps would be coming back to the menu, and it now seems those allegations were true. At the same time we learned that the Golden Arches' take on chicken tenders was returning, it was confirmed that Snack Wraps would also be available relatively soon, too. That makes perfect sense, considering the bulk of the beloved wraps was comprised of the same crispy tenders that are primed to make a return.

The reason McDonald's Snack Wraps were discontinued initially was due to operational complexity — a very corporate way of saying they were challenging for employees to make. The popular Snack Wraps have not been seen on menus since 2016, and the more than 18,000 folks who signed a petition to bring the Snack Wrap back are sure to be ecstatic when they hear their wish has been granted. When it was revealed that crispy tenders – wrapped in a soft tortilla or not – were making a comeback, the earnings call also disclosed that the Chicken Big Mac would be coming to a McDonald's near you for a limited time this year. While McDonald's may sell over 6 million burgers a day, the restaurant seems to be betting big on chicken in 2025.
