Seal Transforms Into A Seal In Mountain Dew's Super Bowl Ad

Remember pop singer Seal, who released the hit song "Kiss from a Rose" back in the 1990s? Well, Seal just surfaced again in a major way during this year's Super Bowl LIX, transforming into a literal seal for a Mountain Dew commercial. If you missed the ad during the game, you can check it out on YouTube — and trust us, you should.

The video opens with singer Becky G popping open a Mountain Dew Baja Blast, only to be whisked away to a speedboat cruising through tropical waters. Cue "Kiss from a Rose," and the reveal of a chorus of seals harmonizing in support of Seal himself, with the singer's crooning head transposed onto the body of a seal.

The seal version of Seal seems to understand the fantastic nature of the scenario, changing the lyrics of the original hit to "Ooh, the more I think of it, it's strange I'm a seal, yeah. My flippers can't hold Mountain Dew. It slips right on through, what a shame" — all while the flippered Seal hilariously struggles with a bottle of Baja Blast. In maybe one of the funniest moments, dorsal fins suddenly cruise by, bringing the song to a halt as the seals (and Seal) nervously freeze while the killer whales pass by. The video wraps up with breaching whales, a volcanic explosion, and a real (human) Seal appearing in the boat. It ends with Becky G concluding: "Well, this is the weirdest thing I've ever seen." Ditto, Becky.

How people are reacting to Seal as a seal

We rated another Mountain Dew commercial one of the best Super Bowl food commercials of 2024, and we have to say the company has another winner for 2025. Everyone is really here for this clever commercial, according to the initial internet reaction, so Mountain Dew may have just hit it out of the park with this one. One commenter on the YouTube clip posts: "Definitely the best super bowl commercial! Seal literally being a seal is the best. But also, WHAT IS THIS?!" Another commenter shared, "Family BUSTED out laughing to this. Bravo."

One thing Mountain Dew (and Seal, of course) have successfully achieved is being memorable ... which, after all, is the point of any advertisement. If the multiple people claiming to suddenly want some Baja Blast are telling the truth, we doubt Mountain Dew will have any regrets about potentially creating the jingle of the year. While similar lemon-lime soda Sierra Mist was discontinued, Mountain Dew seems to be doing fine here; the competition certainly didn't have Seal singing as a pinniped.
