Costco's New Kirkland Cocktails Are Giving Copycat Vibes

Another day, another fascinating find in the world of Costco alcohol. Just a couple months after Costco debuted a new premium Cognac, and a mere week after news broke about an ultra-rare bottle of King of Kentucky bourbon being found for a great price at one American warehouse, Reddit has started buzzing about a new Kirkland canned spirit. This time, it's one that looks awfully familiar to a brand probably already in your weekend rotation.

"New product alert!" read the headline of the post where a Redditor embedded an image of stacked cases of Kirkland Signature Vodka + Soda. As per the photo, the cases contain 18 cans each in three flavors: peach, watermelon, and pineapple. A lot of the chatter on the ensuing discussion focused on Washington State's rather high liquor tax, which made the out-the-door price of the cases more than double the $24.99 cost. But another persistent question emerged: isn't the Vodka + Soda just an obvious dupe of the popular High Noon vodka seltzers? The consensus was that, yes, the Costco product tastes just like High Noon ... which makes it pretty delicious.

Kirkland Signature Vodka Soda reminds many of another seltzer brand

On the pro/con list of the best Costco products to buy and the ones to avoid, alcohol is almost always in the winning column. Your membership helps you save a few bucks off stocking your bar, and the selection is pretty good. Costco members usually score big with the in-house Kirkland Signature brand, which has produced many well-received dupes of brand-name products. You may have heard that Kirkland Signature vodka is just as good as Grey Goose, for instance, while the store's Scotch whisky is likewise highly-regarded.

The Vodka + Soda cans highly resemble High Noon vodka seltzers in more ways than the obvious (being a blend of vodka and carbonated water). Like High Noon's beverages, the Kirkland brand comes in similar flavors and, per the Reddit photo of the boxes, also contains real fruit juice. Reviews on the Reddit thread were favorable, with commenters suggesting the cans as a portable pick-me-up for tailgates or while hitting the ski slopes. Sure, you could mix your own vodka cocktails, but the cans make for a convenient way to enjoy a great-flavored hard seltzer when a full bar isn't available.
