Are Any Girl Scout Cookies Gluten-Free?

Depending on where you live, it is possible to purchase gluten-free Girl Scout cookies. Currently, there are two varieties available for those who are gluten intolerant: Caramel Chocolate Chip and Toffee-tastic. The variety available to you will depend on the region you live in and which baking company — either ABC Bakers or Little Brownie Bakers — produces the cookie.

ABC Bakers began producing the caramel chocolate chip cookie in 2023. The Girl Scouts licensed the company as one of its original bakers since 1937. Not only does ABC bake gluten-free cookies, but it is doing its part to protect the environment, as cookies manufactured by ABC Bakers no longer come in cardboard boxes.

Little Brownie Bakers, responsible for producing the Toffee-tastic cookie, have been making Girl Scout cookies for over 50 years. Besides its gluten-free entry, LBB does not use high-fructose corn syrup or artificial flavors in its cookies. Furthermore, most Girl Scout cookies are certified kosher and halal, though check the packing to be certain.

But how do they taste?

Personally, I can only comment on the Toffee-tastic cookie (in production since 2014). I found it a tasty little morsel, but it crumbled too easily. That wasn't terribly surprising, as baked goods made with alternate flours have a tendency to fall apart more easily. That's not necessarily the worst, and the consistency reminded me of the type of cookie moms and grandmothers enjoy with a cup of tea or coffee. My opinion, however, differs from that of the reviewer at sister site Tasting Table, who didn't enjoy the cookie at all. Would I purchase it again? Yes. It wasn't overly sweet and had no weird aftertaste. As for the caramel chocolate chip, the same tester actually liked this one. Although the cookies had a bit of a chemical flavor, the testers enjoyed the chocolate and caramel.

With the Girl Scouts discontinuing two cookies after 2025 (those would be the S'mores and Toast 'Yay varieties) perhaps there will be room for more gluten-free options. Might I suggest a gluten-free lemon?
