Beverly Soda Is The Disney World Must-Try People Love To Hate

Many people make lifelong memories at Walt Disney World Resort. Some of those are connected to the unique foods and drinks that can be found there. Guests remember their first Mickey-shaped ice cream bar, the taste of pineapple Dole Whip, and the first time they tricked someone into trying Beverly soda at EPCOT.

Have you never heard of Beverly? Beverly is an Italian soda that can be found at Club Cool in EPCOT, along with other international sodas made by Coca-Cola (like the distinctly different Mexican Coke). Situated in Future World near the Spaceship Earth attraction, guests of EPCOT can sample unique Coca-Cola flavors from around the world, all for the price of admission to the park.

Amongst Disney fans, encouraging newbies to taste the surprisingly bitter Beverly soda has become a fun prank to play on unsuspecting travel companions. After trying all the sugary sodas on tap at Club Cool, the concoction is sure to elicit a reaction and a laugh. That's because, to most people, Beverly tastes terrible.

A bitter aperitif

This clear beverage's flavor has been described as extremely bitter but with a hint of grapefruit. It was formulated as a non-alcoholic aperitif — a drink to meant stimulate one's appetite before a meal or aid digestion. Alcoholic aperitifs from Italy, such as amaro, also taste bitter. Yet, Beverly's flavor comes as an unwelcome surprise when you're expecting a sweet soft drink.

Club Cool closed in 2019 when EPCOT was undergoing renovations but, after the height of the COVID-19 pandemic, reopened in 2021 with some changes. Several banks of fountains are available, so you likely won't have long to wait to sample the sodas. Specialty drinks, such as ice cream floats made with your favorite Coca-Cola beverage, are also typically available for purchase. This leaves us wondering if soft-serve vanilla ice cream can improve the flavor of Beverly.

Beverly first entered the Italian market in 1969 and was discontinued in 2009. Today, you can try Beverly at only four places: Club Cool in EPCOT, the Coca-Cola Store in Disney Springs and Las Vegas, and The World of Coca-Cola Museum in Atlanta, Georgia. According to The World of Coca-Cola, Beverly is one of the spot's most popular flavors. But, unless you really enjoy bitter beverages, your first try may well be your last.
