Costco Unveils Brand New Dessert That Gives Orange Crush Vibes
Costco is renowned for making its membership worthwhile with incredible savings customers can take advantage of. But a deal for a deal's sake doesn't cut it, so they've got to have the right goodies on offer as well. Loss leading items like its 5-buck rotisserie chickens (which are only out for two hours at a time) and the $1.50 hot dog and soda combo are legendary and worth getting every time, but that leaves a lot of cart to fill, and you still don't have your bulk-size dessert. The membership warehouse recently introduced a new cake for fans to swoon over, and it has summer vibes written all over it.
The newest addition to Costco's fare is the Orange Dreamsicle Cheesecake. This 4.75-pound confectionary delight has a sweet graham cracker crust that houses its moist orange vanilla cheesecake batter. It's crowned with a light, fluffy whipped topping blanketed with an orange frosting swirl at its center, ringed by additional graham cracker crumbs. The mouthwatering cheesecake costs $22.99 and looks like the perfect dessert option for a summer picnic, but how it really tastes is what matters most.
Does it taste like an orange creamsicle?
The Orange Dreamsicle Cheesecake isn't currently available at all Costco locations; if you want to be sure the retailer has some before stopping in, your best bet is to call first. It wouldn't be a bad idea anyway, since these are sure to move fast where they can be found.
Though the name is a bit of a giveaway, those that have gotten their hands on one were happy to spill the beans on what it tastes like. One taste-tester on Reddit took a leveled approach to judging the dessert and seemed pleased overall. Redditor pb_and_lemon_curd indicated the graham crust is thick and sturdy as it displayed minimal crumbling and likened the whipped topping to creamy icing. They indicated it had a hint of orange flavor that may have been in the icing, but it could have come from the cake itself. The poster said that while they enjoyed the confection, it didn't scream "orange creamsicle," so those hoping for a burst of the nostalgic flavor may be slightly disappointed. @frugalhotspot New and oh so yummy – Orange Dreamsicle Cheesecake at Costco! It's the perfect summertime flavor! $22.99 at select Costco locations for a very limited time (your price & availability may vary). Item 1841748. Covington, WA Costco Sorry I had to delete the original video. Apparently if you write and use your own background music the sound gets muted. The orange creamsicle flavor was having a moment even before this 72 oz cake hit the scene. If you have a creamy orange craving, there are several ways to sate it until the cake comes to a store near you.
The orange creamsicle trend
Costco is the latest to jump on this year's citrusy trend with its Orange Dreamsicle Cheesecake, but what else has been going on? Back in March, Wendy's dropped a seasonal Orange Dreamsicle Frosty for a limited time. You can't get it right now, but we're hoping it shows its face again before warm weather wraps up. (At least Dave's Orange Cream Soda remains.)
Sonic also recently came out with its Orange Cloudsicle Slush Float. The sweet drink consists of vanilla boba and Orange Cloudsicle-flavored slush topped with vanilla ice cream and extra boba pearls as a garnish. Not only is Sonic following the orange creamsicle trend, but it's also taking a hint from Starbucks' new line of boba teas. Speaking of Starbucks, its current summer menu has an orange creamsicle flavored treat as well. The coffee giant is proudly sporting Orange Cream Cake Pops – made with orange cream cake mixed with buttercream and dipped in chocolate icing, it could be the perfect pick-me-up to go alongside your morning latte.
Even adult beverages are getting in on the game. Vizzy Hard Seltzer last year added an Orange Cream Pop flavor to its line of fizzy alcoholic drinks, and it's getting another limited time release. They boast a burst of orange flavor tempered with a touch of vanilla sweetness that seems perfect for sipping by the pool. If you're craving the nostalgic flavor of orange creamsicle, Costco is just the latest business to cater to your needs.
