Fried Cinnamon Strips Dessert Recipe

This is not the healthiest dessert recipe that we have on this website, however, sometimes you do not want something drastically healthy. You want something that tastes absolutely delicious and can be made with next to no effort. You get that with these fried cinnamon strips. Not only will you be enjoying an incredibly pleasurable taste, the whole thing will take under thirty minutes to put together. Let’s take a little look at how to make these, shall we?

Ingredients and equipment

In order to make these fried cinnamon strips for dessert, you are going to need to have a deep fryer available. If you do not have one, a deep skillet will do, although, it is slightly more dangerous to go down that route, so make sure you have a fire blanket available, just in case (it is very rare that something will happen, but you have to be prepared!). This recipe will make about thirty six cinnamon strips. You can increase the quantities, or lower them, if you wish.

  • One cup of white sugar.
  • 1 teaspoon of ground cinnamon, use fresh.
  • ¼ teaspoon of ground nutmeg, use fresh.
  • 10 flour tortillas, preferable 8 inches.
  • 3 cups of oil.

You will need to start by mixing the sugar, nutmeg and cinnamon up in a large bag that can be sealed back up. You just need to lightly toss it all together to give it a good mix. Whilst this is going on, you will want to heat your oil up to 375 degrees using whichever method you will be using to cook everything.

Whilst the oil is heating up, cut your tortillas up into strips. You should get four or five per flour tortilla, although, you can make them as big as you want.

Fry the tortilla strips, just a few at a time, in the oil. They should only take about thirty seconds to cook each. You want them to be golden brown. Grab some paper towels and put the tortilla strips on them. You want the oil to start to drain away. Do not let the tortilla strips get too cold though, they still need to be warm for the final step.

The last step is to slide the tortilla strips into the bag with your cinnamon mixture into it. Shake it lightly and this should be enough to cover the tortilla strips. Most people prefer to eat their fried cinnamon strips straight away. However, if you put them in an airtight container, they also make a brilliant snack for later on.

Remember, while these taste absolutely delightful, you will want to eat these in moderation as they contain a lot of calories. After all, not only are they deep fried, but they also contain a lot of sugar. If you are on a diet, or just trying to eat a bit healthier, you will almost certainly wish to restrict how many fried cinnamon strips you are eating at once!
